Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering
About us
History

Electronics and information technologies are the leading industries in Taiwan. Both industries require young blood to join each year in order to maintain the lead and further push the industries forward. However, according to the statistics from the Council for Economic Planning and Development of the Execute Yuan, there is still a significant short-supply of well-trained engineers to meet the needs. In particular, there is a much urgent demand for qualified software engineers. In view of this, the department has set the ultimate goals of educating students with comprehensive training in systems integrated with information engineering, networking/communication and biotechnology.

To achieve these goals, Chang Gung University established the Graduate Institute of Computer Science and Information Engineering in 2001, with 15 new master’s students enrolled in the first year. The undergraduate program of Computer Science and Information Engineering followed by recruiting 44 freshmen in 2003. Since then the department has grown in size as well as in quality. As of October 2016, we have

‧ 19 tenured or tenure track faculty
‧ 20+ graduate students (Doctor of Science)
‧ 50+ graduate students (Master of Science)
‧ 220+ undergraduate students (Bachelor of Science)
‧ 3 administrative staff members

Beginning in 2007, we also started our Ph.D. program as one of the two branches in the Graduate Institute of Electric Engineering, Chang Gung University. We now have 23 Ph.D. students, including 4 Indian students who just joined us in September 2015. Gradually we will be conducting all Ph.D. courses in English, marking an important step into the internationalization of our academic and research programs. Expected to begin as soon as in the fall semester of 2013, we will collaborate with the Department of Electronic Engineering to host a joint undergraduate program in Electronic Engineering and Computer Engineering (EE & CE). This international program is designed to accommodate the core knowledge set required for both professionals. All courses will be lectured completely in English, and details will be announced shortly when they become available.
